The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. Incorporated in 1914 under the state laws of Oregon, the company constructed and operated steamship and dockage facilities in the Columbia River and the Pacific Coast. It also operated two ocean-going steamships ("Great Northern" and "Northern Pacific"), which traveled from Flavel, Ore., to San Francisco, Calif., and to the Hawaiian Islands.
